“Our animals are raised on our pastures and fed crops grown and harvested on our farm.”Cheryl Sauerer, Owner #399My husband and I own a 227 acre certified organic farm south of Avon. We bought the home-place from Don’s parents in 1982, shortly after we were married. We started transitioning the farm from conventional farming practices to organic in 2000. By 2004 all of the land, crops, and produce was certified organic. We grow crops, produce, and herbs and raise cattle, sheep, chickens for meat and eggs, pigs, ducks, and 2 very pampered dogs (Cassie & Shelby). Our animals are raised on our pastures and fed crops grown and harvested on our farm. Our cattle, sheep, and ducks are born, raised, and finished on our pastures. Our chickens are raised cage-free/soy-free in an environment that allows for natural bird behaviors such as nesting, perching, and dust bathing, all of which are essential to healthy habits for birds. Our pastures and crops are planted with certified organic seeds (non-GMO). Our hay is harvested using the old-fashioned method of cutting and allowed to dry in the fields by the rays of the sun for several days before baling, without the use of preservatives or drying chemicals. We grow a variety of grains: wheat, rye, barley, and oats. Small batches of grains are ground weekly which provides fresh nutritious feed for the animals. The produce and herbs we grow are sold fresh to our customers or used to make delicious baked and canned goods. Our project for 2020 is to build an inspected structure that meets the MDA regulations so we can process and sell chickens on our farm and at farmers markets. This will provide our customers with more options for how they want their chickens packaged and if they want to pick up the chickens fresh or frozen. Our customers have been patiently waiting for this and we are finally moving forward. We are a vendor at several farmers markets in the surrounding area: St. Cloud Area Farmers Market (downtown), Sprout MN, and St. Joseph. We supply produce, meats, and eggs to Good Earth Food Co-op (St. Cloud), MN Street Market (St. Joseph), and in the very near future to The Purple Carrot Market (Little Falls). We do home deliveries in the St. Cloud and surrounding communities and you can also come out to our farm to pick up items. The best method of reaching us is by email or text, as most of the day we are outside working in the fields and gardens. To learn more about DCBL and their product availability, contact:
