The Purple Carrot is proud to sponsor a Pop-Up Market on Tuesday, July 28 featuring local meats and produce from Purple Carrot owners as well as wellness products. From 4:00 – 6:00 pm, the Market will be set up in the parking lot behind the Purple Carrot Market (53 E Broadway, Little Falls) offering meats from DCBL Acres (Owner #399); produce from Little Falls Microgreens (Owner #403) and Stone Hill Farms (Owner #418); and wellness products from Oils 101 (Owner #210 ). While everyone is welcome to shop the Pop-Up Market, the producer-owners have special offers for Purple Carrot owners. So if you haven’t already, become an owner at the Pop-Up Market! Each of our producer-owners has listed the products that they anticipate having available. Depending on the weather – and who knows about that?!? – they may have additional items or some items may have a limited quantity. If you have questions about what will be available, pricing, or if you want to order larger quantities, please pre-order directly with the producer. Donald and Cheryl with DCBL Acres will be bringing their freezer truck loaded with their organically raised meats, poultry, and eggs. (If you missed it, check out our producer profile on DCBL Acres that was posted on our website on July 6 to learn more about their farm and farming practices.) They anticipate having:
Ben with Little Falls Microgreens grows and sells microgreens which are a fabulous addition to your salad and throughout your meal. He will have some sweet pea, purple and red radish, salad mix, and broccoli microgreens available on the 28th. Current Purple Carrot Market owners will receive $1 off each clamshell and Ben will give each person who becomes an owner during the Pop-Up Market one small clamshell of microgreens. Want more information prior to the market? Contact Ben at Littlefallsmicrogreens@gmail.com . Chris and Lisa with Oils 101 are offering essential oils and wellness products available at 25% off for Purple Carrot owners. Looking for powerful, chemical-free cleaning solutions for your home? Oils 101 is stocked up with their Thieves line of cleaning products. They will also bring their Savvy Minerals clean makeup. Nathan and Nikki from Stone Hill Farms LLC plan on bringing zucchini, cucumbers, green beans, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, beets, sweet corn, and cabbage. Want to serve on the Purple Carrot Market Board of Directors?
Can you help identify someone who would be a great board member? Annually the Purple Carrot Market holds an election to fill positions on its governing board. As a democratically run business, board members are elected by our owners and you must be an owner to serve on the board of directors. Due to COVID-19, our Annual Meeting, which includes board member elections, has been postponed to September. In preparation for that Meeting, we are reaching out to our owners to encourage interested individuals to stand for election to the board. The Purple Carrot is in a very busy and exciting stage of planning the opening of our locally-owned grocery store in downtown Little Falls! At this point in our development, we are specifically seeking board members with a passion for the co-op, time to commit, and who have skills/experience in any of the following areas:
“Our animals are raised on our pastures and fed crops grown and harvested on our farm.”Cheryl Sauerer, Owner #399My husband and I own a 227 acre certified organic farm south of Avon. We bought the home-place from Don’s parents in 1982, shortly after we were married. We started transitioning the farm from conventional farming practices to organic in 2000. By 2004 all of the land, crops, and produce was certified organic. We grow crops, produce, and herbs and raise cattle, sheep, chickens for meat and eggs, pigs, ducks, and 2 very pampered dogs (Cassie & Shelby). Our animals are raised on our pastures and fed crops grown and harvested on our farm. Our cattle, sheep, and ducks are born, raised, and finished on our pastures. Our chickens are raised cage-free/soy-free in an environment that allows for natural bird behaviors such as nesting, perching, and dust bathing, all of which are essential to healthy habits for birds. Our pastures and crops are planted with certified organic seeds (non-GMO). Our hay is harvested using the old-fashioned method of cutting and allowed to dry in the fields by the rays of the sun for several days before baling, without the use of preservatives or drying chemicals. We grow a variety of grains: wheat, rye, barley, and oats. Small batches of grains are ground weekly which provides fresh nutritious feed for the animals. The produce and herbs we grow are sold fresh to our customers or used to make delicious baked and canned goods. Our project for 2020 is to build an inspected structure that meets the MDA regulations so we can process and sell chickens on our farm and at farmers markets. This will provide our customers with more options for how they want their chickens packaged and if they want to pick up the chickens fresh or frozen. Our customers have been patiently waiting for this and we are finally moving forward. We are a vendor at several farmers markets in the surrounding area: St. Cloud Area Farmers Market (downtown), Sprout MN, and St. Joseph. We supply produce, meats, and eggs to Good Earth Food Co-op (St. Cloud), MN Street Market (St. Joseph), and in the very near future to The Purple Carrot Market (Little Falls). We do home deliveries in the St. Cloud and surrounding communities and you can also come out to our farm to pick up items. The best method of reaching us is by email or text, as most of the day we are outside working in the fields and gardens. To learn more about DCBL and their product availability, contact:
